Thank you to all involved with the 2011 Holiday Horsepower Drive gift campaing.  The year started out slow with gifts for the children.  But the closer we got to the date of the hospital visit, the more gifts we had coming in.  We ended up with some great items.

The wrapping session took place a Joe’s Karting and was quick, focused and fun.  Some go-kart racing followed the wrapping.  Then we all met at the Omaha Children’s Hospital with all the wrapped gifts.  The packages and the people were split into 3 groups and disbursed throughout the hospital.  Each group met with patients to deliver the gifts.  We all met back in the lobby of the hospital after delivering the gifts.

While the group was at the hospital, we also had to check out the Wall of Life.  Holiday Horsepower Drive and anyone that has helped out in the last 6 years has donated enough money to Children’s Hospital to have a plaque on the Wall of Life.  Holiday Horsepower Drive also has a tile in the Pediatric Gardern.

The day was a good day and fun was had by all while also helping to brighten the day of some great kids.

Let’s do it again next year!

We need everyone’s help this year.  We need items for the gift drive.  All donations (monetary and otherwise) can be sent to Joe’s Karting.
The hospital visit is Saturday, December 17th and we only have a few items so far.
Recommended donations are:
Racing shirts
Decals
Toys (new)
Crayons
Hand held games
Cash
Hero cards
Hot wheels
Coloring books
Gift cards
Stuffed animals
Gift Bags (for infant gifts)
Boxes (for the other gifts)

We have 100 children to help. It breaks down to about 60 kids from ages toddler to teenager and about 40 babies (many in NICU). For the babies we usually have a receiving blanket, a beanie baby animal, a stocking, and a set of booties per baby.
We try to give each child the same things in their boxes.  If we get 5 t-shirts from 12 different racing teams, that would be 60 shirts for the older kids.  Anything given is a big help and much appreciated by the kids.
Email or call Buddy Ray ASAP if you can help out.  Or if you would like to donate to the cause, please send to the Holiday Horsepower Drive at:

Let’s Help the Kids Again This Year!!!!

Every year around Christmas, a group of local racecar drivers get together with gifts for the kids at Children’s Hospital in Omaha. It takes a lot of time and a lot of passion for the children to do this. The drivers and good citizens donate money, toys, stuffed animals and more to the families and the Hospital.

Gifts and donations are collected all year long for this event to make sure that all the kids at Children’s Hospital have a package to open.  The tireless efforts of these drivers, their families and others all contribute to making the Holiday Horsepower Drive a big success.

It is a real family effort.  We have racers and their families helping out in all aspects.  Whether it is collecting money or gifts or wrapping the packages, it is a family project.  The racers take the packages and visit each and every child that it is possible to visit, giving each child a large bag of stickers, t-shirts and toys, and take the time to explain the meaning of many of the stickers.  There are even some toys to be a permanent part of the playroom.

All proceeds will be donated to the Holiday Horsepower Drive to purchase gifts for the kids at Omaha’s Children’s Hospital.  All new toys donated go to the kids or to the hospital playrooms.  Gently used toys go to the Rainbow House which services the Children’s Hospital.

If you would like to donate to the cause, please send a check or money order to the Holiday Horsepower Drive at:

This is something started by a racer done by racers for the last 5 years.  Let’s make the 6th year the best!

(1/10/09) Saturday night durng the I-80 Speedway Banquet Andrew Kosiski, a local dirt late model driver from Omaha, was honored for his generosity of time, effort and selflessness. Andrew this past fall raised an amazing $5200 personally to assist the Holiday Horsepower Drive. Andrew was presented a custom designed poster calendar from RaceDayPrints and addressed the crowd of local drivers, pit crews and family. For those of you that know Andrew please give him your thanks the next time you see him. It may not be today but someday you might just know someone getting care at Children’s Hospital, and understand just how much the donations from the HHPD can help.

My daughter, Hannah is the poster child for 2009 Holiday Horsepower Drive. Recently I have had some issues with van losing alot of antifreeze. Buddy Ray Jones and fellow members of Dirtdrivers.com have come together with an overwhelming response to my daughters needs. I feel so blessed to have so many people open their hearts to us!
